Amy Sue Bix

Amy Bix is a professor of history at Iowa State University and director of ISU's Center for Historical Studies of Technology and Science. Her book _Girls Coming to Tech!: A History of American Engineering Education for Women_ (MIT Press, 2014) won the 2015 Margaret W. Rossiter Prize from the History of Science Society, awarded to the most outstanding book on history of women in science.

Amy publishes widely on women and gender in STEM, including the history of gender and alternative medicine, breast cancer and AIDS research, gender and the body in Islamic culture, women and home repair, and the history of female aviators, physicians, and home economists. Her book _Inventing Ourselves Out of Jobs?: America's Debate over Technological Unemployment, 1929-1981_(Johns Hopkins University Press, 2000) was selected for the American Library Association's Choice Magazine "Outstanding Academic Titles, 2000."

Amy is currently continuing her research on women in American engineering, looking at, among other things, the history of technology toys and STEM education for girls.
