Frank D. Bardgett

Frank Bardgett has now retired from ministry with the Church of Scotland. His published books reflect a life-long interest in local history and tell stories that have caught his imagination. His writing concentrates on people in society, not on theology, and tries to recover the lives, motivations and conflicts of people and places who do not normally feature in mainstream publications. These books aren’t best-sellers but careful reading - hopefully - will not disappoint.

Frank’s doctorate in church history from Edinburgh University was awarded for a regional study of the Scottish Reformation supervised by Prof. M. Lynch; earlier, he had studied the English Reformation under Prof. G.R. Elton at Cambridge. His books reflect an academic, document-based, approach to research.
