Charles Gannon

I was born in 1955, in Dublin, Ireland, where I was educated in Belvedere College. I was a commercial artist for five years before moving to Ireland's national broadcaster RTÉ, where I have been working as a sound operator, a vision mixer (switcher) and a technical director. In my spare time I am an amateur musician; as a child I learned to play the piano and the recorder, then later studied the treble viola da gamba with the late John S. Beckett in the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. I have written two books: the first, 'Cathal Gannon: The Life and Times of a Dublin Craftsman' (a biography of my father, who was a harpsichord maker and antique piano restorer), and 'John S. Beckett: The Man and the Music' (a biography of my music teacher, who was a cousin of the writer and playwright Samuel Beckett).
