Abhisek Ukil

Abhisek Ukil was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India in 1978.

He received the bachelor of electrical engineering degree from the Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 2000. Then, he worked as software engineer from 2000-2002 at InterraIT. He received the M.Sc. (dual) degree in electronic systems and engineering management from the University of Bolton, Bolton, UK, and FH-SWF, Germany in 2004. He was a DAAD scholar during M.Sc. He received his Ph.D., working on signal processing for power systems disturbance analysis, from the Pretoria (Tshwane) University of Technology, South Africa in 2006, done jointly with South African national utility.

After joining in 2006, currently he is a Principal Scientist at the ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) Corporate Research Center, Baden-Daettwil, Switzerland. He has published over 45 refereed papers, a monograph "Intelligent Systems and Signal Processing in Power Engineering," by Springer, Heidelberg, two book chapters. He is main/co-inventor of 7 patents. He is a senior member of IEEE, USA.

His research interests include power systems, signal processing, machine learning, condition monitoring & diagnostics, smart grid applications, sensor-based embedded systems.
