Called the godmother of alternative comedy by The LA Times, Beth Lapides is the creator and host of Los Angeles’ legendary storytelling show UnCabaret. Now in its 28th year, UnCabaret is the un-homophobic, un-xenophobic, un-misogynistic and un-hacky place for comedy luminaries to tell stories ripped from the headlines of their lives.
UnCabaret has been adapted into an Amazon Prime series, a Comedy Central special, and five critically acclaimed albums. Its notable guest list includes Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, Margaret Cho, Sandra Bernhard, Kathy Griffin, Maria Bamford, Julia Sweeney, Tig Notaro, Janeane Garofalo, Jon Stewart, Jennifer Coolidge, Sarah Silverman, Natasha Leggero, Sam Jay, Ali Wong and countless more.
Beth has appeared on CNN’s History of Comedy, PBS’ Women in Comedy, Comedy Central, NPR’s All Things Considered, Politically Incorrect, The Today Show and Sex & The City. In addition to hosting UnCabaret, she’s hosted a talk show pilot, The Couch, for MTV, the podcast Life and Beth, and two daily radio shows, The Beth Lapides Experience and Radio UnCabaret.
Beth has written for O Magazine, Elle Décor, Premiere Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine, Premiere Magazine and LA Yoga, for whom she wrote a syndicated monthly column “My Other Car is A Yoga Mat”. She also wrote LA Weekly’s cover story on UnCabaret’s 25th anniversary show. Her first book, Did I Wake You? Haikus for Modern living was published by Soft Skull Press. Her writing has appeared in several anthologies including Premier's Guide to The Movies and No Kidding.
