Matthew E. Gordley

Matthew E. Gordley (Ph.D., University of Notre Dame) is a scholar of early Christian and Jewish writings with expertise in psalms, hymns, poetry, and parables within these traditions. His specialty lies in interpreting these early religious and poetic texts with careful attention to their original historical, cultural, and literary contexts. He is Professor of Theology, Interim Provost, and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA). His latest book, Social Justice in the Stories of Jesus: The Ethical Challenge of the Parables (2024), uses this same careful attention to literary analysis and cultural contexts to examine the parables of Jesus and their implications in our current context.
