Annecy Baez
I am an award-winning Dominican American writer, therapist, educator, and workshop facilitator. My book, My Daughter’s Eyes and Other Stories (2007), earned the prestigious Mármol Prize for First Latinx Fiction. My stories have appeared in various anthologies, including Vinyl Donuts, Brújula/Compass, and Tertuliando/Hanging Out. Notable works include “Butterfly Kisses” in Riverine, translated as “Besos de Mariposas” in Viajeros del Rocío, and “The Red Shoes,” translated as “Tacones Rojos” in Caudal.
Recent publications include “Sheltering with Late Husband” (2020), “Dominican Cake” (2020), and “Resurrection” (2021) in 4:33, as well as “Sweet Cake Enzo” and “The Vote” (2020) in Open Plaza. My speculative fiction, “Time Being,” appeared in Quislaona: A Dominican Fantasy Anthology, and my bilingual short story, “The Eloquence of Love,” was featured in La imagen de la Madre en La Literatura, El Cine, Las Artes Escénicas y Las Artes Visuales, edited by Sonia Valdez and Paquita Suarez.
I am also the founder of Inksite, a creative and healing collective where I lead writing circles, dream tending gatherings, and bibliotherapy-based workshops grounded in expressive arts and integrative trauma work. Through Inksite, I facilitate circles on Awareness, Courage, and Love (ACL), DREAM work, and Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) writing workshops that nurture voice, authenticity, and a sense of belonging. My offerings blend therapeutic techniques with creative exploration to support emotional healing, resilience, and reconnection with self and community.
In addition to my writing, I am a professor at Touro University Graduate School of Social Work, where I teach clinical practice and expressive arts in social work practice. I am a Focusing-Oriented psychotherapist trained in various modalities, including Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (Level 2), and the Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM).
