Ling Ding

Ding Ling (1904-1986) was one of the most celebrated 20th-century Chinese writers who authored more than three hundred works in her career. She was awarded second place for the Soviet Union’s Stalin prize for Literature in 1951 for her novel The Sun Shines Over Sanggan River, the latter of which, formerly banned, has since been republished and translated into numerous languages. Several years before her death, she was allowed to travel to the United States where she was a guest at the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program.
