Mauricio Espinoza

Mauricio Espinoza (León Cortés, Costa Rica) is a poet, essayist, and translator. He is assistant professor of Spanish and Latin American literature at the University of Cincinnati. He explores issues of identity and representation of Latinos/as in U.S. media and popular culture, and also writes about Central American literature, media, and culture. He has translated the work of Costa Rican poet Eunice Odio and several Salvadoran-American poets.

Before attending graduate school, he was a reporter for English-language newspapers in Costa Rica and contributed to Spanish-language publications in the United States. He also has over a decade of experience in the field of science communications in higher education. He studied journalism at Ashland University, and Latin American literature and history at The Ohio State University.
