Carmelo Mesa-Lago

Carmelo Mesa-Lago is Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Economics and Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, has been a visiting professor, researcher or lecturer in 40 countries, and the author of 82 books and 275 articles published in 7 languages in 34 countries. Past President of the Latin American Studies Association, Member of the National Academy of Social Insurance and member of editorial boards of six academic journals. Awarded the 2007 International Labor Organization Prize on Decent Work (shared with Nelson Mandela), also the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung Senior Prize, two Senior Fulbrights, Arthur Whitaker and Hoover Institution Prizes, the Distinction of the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy, the Bicentennial Medallion of the University of Pittsburgh, Homage for his life work on social security from the Iberoamerican Organization of Social Security and the Inter-American Committee on Social Security, finalist of Spain’s Prince of Asturias Prize on Social Sciences 2009. He is an international consultant with multiple financial and social international organizations.
