Jiang Wu 吴疆 was born in Dalian, China in 1969 and grew up in Luoyang, a city rich of culture and history, in central China. He attended Nankai University (Tianjin) from 1987 to 1994, earning both BA (Philosophy and Tourism English) and MA (Chinese Philosophy) degrees. After working in Kunming for two years, he went to Harvard University in 1996 with an award from the Harvard-Yenching Institute and earned his Ph.D in religious studies in 2002 under the tutelage of Robert Gimello and Weiming Tu. He has been teaching Chinese Buddhism in Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona (Tucson) since 2002.
