Clay Shampoe

Born March 19, 1952 in Bethesda, Maryland; a Marine Corps brat with Dad stationed in Eighth and I (DC), Quantico, Camp Pendleton (California), Hawaii and Norfolk, VA over his 30-year career. My father served in both Korea and Vietnam. I experienced my freshman through junior years at Fallbrook (California) Union High School and graduated in 1970 at Waipahu High School on Oahu when Dad was transfered to Hawaii. Bachelor of Science in Special Education (1980) Old Dominion University; Masters of Science in Communication Disorders (1986/ODU) and Certificate of Advance Study from ODU in Educational Administration in 1992. Began as a speech-language pathologist with the Portsmouth Public Schools in 1980; began work as the Clinical Supervisor for Outpatient Speech Services with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (Norfolk, VA) in 1994, and returned to the public schools in Virginia Beach in 2008 and have worked at Holland Elementary since then. Served as adjunct instructor at Old Dominion University in the Communication Disorders department in 1998-1999.

Outside of the speech pathology field, I am a local sports historian specializing in Southeastern Virginia. Currently have five published books including four through Arcadia Publishing: Baseball In Norfolk, Virginia; Baseball In Portsmouth, Virginia; The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame: Celebrating Champions of the Commonwealth; Old Dominion University Basketball; and one printed at Donning Publishing: The Norfolk Sports Club.

Currently researching and gathering material for future books on Portsmouth's NFL Hall of Famer Clarence "Ace" Parker and Norfolk's own NASCAR Hall of Famer Joe Weatherly.

Avid sports collector of memories and memorabilia of Hampton Roads sports history including the Virginia Squires, Norfolk Neptunes, Norfolk Tars, Tidewater Tides, Portsmouth Cubs and Norfolk Naval Station baseball during World War II.

Current or former Member of Society of Baseball Research, Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Presented employed as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Happily married since 1984 to Debby, an artist and RN.
