James Curtis Raines

Jim calls himself an accidental academic with the heart of a practitioner. He has over 20 years of experience working with K-12 students. He is the author of over thirty publications and three new books, Evidence-Based Practice in School Mental Health; School Social Work; and Ethical Decision Making in School Mental Health (all published by Oxford University Press). He is a past President of the Illinois Association of School Social Workers and the Midwest School Social Work Council. He was Chair of Standards & Practices for the School Social Work Association of America from 2006-2008. He was a keynote speaker at the 4th International School Social Work Conference in Auckland, New Zealand in 2009 and a keynote at the national conference of SSWAA in St. Louis, MO in 2010. He is the Chair of the Department of Health, Human Services, and Public Policy at California State University Monterey Bay. He is the 2012 recipient of the Midwest School Social Work Council's Career Achievement Award.
