Dr. Ayala is currently on active duty in the United States Air Force Medical Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel. He received his BS in Nursing in 1991 from Binghamton University with Highest Honors (GPA 3.98). He then attended medical school at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he received numerous academic honors, including induction into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), selected as an Academic Medicine Fellow by the National Medical Fellowships Program, and a Letter of Distinction in Pharmacology from Louis J. Ignarro recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Medicine. Dr. Ayala then served as a Clinical Fellow in Surgery, Harvard Medical School during his General Surgery Internship at the Beth Israel Deaconess, and Clinical Fellow in Otology and Laryngology, Harvard Medical School, during his residency in the Harvard Otolaryngology Residency Program.
Dr Ayala is Board Certified in Otolaryngology, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgerons. Dr Ayala is also an Air Force Flight Surgeon who has worked with NASA in support of various Space Shuttle Missions. Dr Ayala's dedication to the community have led him to participate in various medical missions to Cuba, Ecuador, Russia, and Guatemala. Dr Ayala is currently training in a competitive and prestigious Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the Lasky Clinic in Beverly Hills, California.
Dr. Ayala's ongoing dedication to medicine and surgery have earned him the US Air Force, Air Mobility Command, "Surgeon of the Year" 2006 award, and his selection as one of "America's Top Physicians" by Consumer Research Council of America, 2008.
