Jodi Halpern

Jodi Halpern. M.D., Ph.D, is a psychiatrist and a philosopher who investigates how the emotional imagination of doctors and patients shapes healthcare decisions. She is an Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley, where her research focus is on clinical empathy and adapting to health changes.

In addition to From Detached Concern to Empathy: Humanizing Medical Practice, she is completing a book on living well in the wake of illness and disability. She also researches veterans' emotional experiences on returning to their families after war.
