Russell E. Richey

Dr. Russell E. Richey, Dean Emeritus of Candler School of Theology and William R. Cannon Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Emory University

Dr. Richey serves as vice president of the Wesley Works Editorial Project,is president-elect of the Historical Society of the United Methodist Church and was a drafter for the General Conference Task Force to Study the Episcopacy (2008). He is a member of the United Methodist-Episcopal dialogue and the UMC Faith and Order Committee. A senior fellow at Emory's Center for the Study of Law and Religion until retirement, he was active in its Christian Jurisprudence project. Currently he is a visiting professor at Duke Divinity School and research fellow in the Center for Studies in the Wesleyan Tradition.

His research interest focuses on American religious history, with special emphases including Methodism, comparative denominational studies, and American civil or public religion.

Dr. Richey is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church.
