Amy Devitt is a Professor of English at the University of Kansas, a writer, scholar, and teacher. In all her writing, she strives to explain how language works and why. She is a noted expert on genre theory--the everyday kinds of writing that influence how we see our worlds and how we write, speak, and read. She also studies issues of "correct" English and language standards. Born and raised in Colorado, she has spent most of her life in the U.S. midwest but enjoys traveling to give talks and meet new people.
