Daniel Granholm Mulhern

Daniel Granholm Mulhern is Distinguished Practitioner of Law & Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He is President of Granholm Mulhern Associates. He is a leadership expert, with a diverse personal work background. Dan has led organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Since 1999 he has been active as a public speaker, consultant, radio personality, and writer in the field of leadership.

In 2007 Dan published Everyday Leadership: Getting Results in Business, Politics and Life, and in 2009 published Be Real: Inspiring Stories for Leading at Home and Work. For ten years he has been writing an acclaimed blog, "Reading for Leading," which is received directly by over ten thousand readers (sign-up at www.danmulhern.com).

Dan is expert in individual coaching and organizational development. He has facilitated groups as large as 600 individuals, and worked with CEOs and executive teams from small start-ups all the way to Fortune 500 companies.

Dan left his successful business, Mulhern Hastings Group in 2002 when his wife Jennifer Granholm was elected Governor of the State of Michigan. He took as his primary focus the love and development of his and Jennifer's three children. During those eight years he has also thrown himself into his duties as Michigan's first, First Gentleman: Chairing the state's Community Service Commission, establishing an economic development effort called Michigan's Next Great Companies, and spearheading an organizational change movement inside the state government to make it a "great place to do great work." He has also served on the National Governors Association's Spouses Leadership Council, serving a term as chairman. Dan has given hundreds of pro bono speeches to support, challenge and motivate Michigan's non-profits, governmental units and for-profit companies. Dan's groundbreaking radio show "Everyday Leadership: Making Work Work" was broadcast across Michigan on the Michigan Talk Network and streams online at the Michigan Talk Network.

Dan has recently spoken to and/or consulted at Google, Facebook, Cisco Systems, the California Workforce Association. He has spoken on the changing roles of men at recent conferences of the Family & Work Institute and the Boston College Center for Work and Family.

Dan gives gratitude for his Jesuit education at University of Detroit High School, and his degrees in education and religion at Yale (1980) and Harvard Law School (1986).
