Zeynep Biringen

Zeynep Biringen, Ph.D. is a clinical child psychologist in Boulder and professor at Colorado State University, in the department of Human Development & Family Studies.

On a professional note, she has spearheaded the development of the concept of "emotional availability" into a rigorous, scientific tool for observing parent-child, adult-child, and other relationships. She is the author of more than 60 publications and several books on emotional relationships.

On a personal note, she was a "people watcher" on the University of California, Berkeley campus, as a graduate student there, a common term used by Berkeley students sitting on a particular lawn on the campus. Perhaps emanating from this time-consuming activity, she became interested in seeing more than the obvious and now teaches and trains others in observational skills, and believes in the "power of observation". Her books are descriptions of how we can all use the powers of observation, armed with background knowledge from research, to understand and enhance our relationships with attachment figures.
