James Harrington

James Harrington is a professional operatic bass and Paul J. Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Fellow at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in music business/management (entrepreneurship and management cognates), Harrington worked for several years in the music industry before deciding to train as and become an opera singer. He holds the Master of Music in voice performance from Florida State University and is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts in voice at the University of Wisconsin and the graduate certificate in entrepreneurship at the Wisconsin School of Business. As a singer, he has appeared with the Santa Fe Opera, Portland (OR) Opera, Nashville Opera, Teatro Nuovo, Sarasota Opera, and Opera Idaho, among others.

A native of Londonderry, NH, Harrington was a 4-year member of Cape Cod-based professional a cappella group Hyannis Sound. He and his wife, Marah, live in Madison, WI, with their two dogs, Benedict and Rigby.
