John G. Fitch

John Fitch grew up in England and has lived in Ghana, the United States, and (since 1973) in Canada. He retired as Professor and Chair of the Department of Greek and Roman Studies at the University of Victoria in 1999. Several of his books are concerned with Seneca’s dramas, including the two-volume edition and translation in the Loeb Classical Library. His poetry collection "Wildflowers of the Coast" reflects his interest in the natural world, and in the relationship between poetry and systematic knowledge. After many years’ practical experience on a small farm just outside Victoria, he translated Palladius’ "The Work of Farming" as a retirement project.
