Daniel J. Jacob

Daniel J. Jacob is the Vasco McCoy Family Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Environmental Engineering at Harvard University. His research focuses on understanding the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere and its implications for climate, air pollution, and life on Earth. He is the original developer of the GEOS-Chem atmospheric chemistry model used by hundreds of research groups worldwide. He received the Distinguished Service Medal from NASA for his leadership of aircraft campaigns and satellite missions probing air composition around the world. Jacob has trained over 100 Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows over the course of his career, has published over 600 research papers in the peer-reviewed literature, and is one of the most-cited environmental scientists in the world. He has published two textbooks, Introduction to Atmospheric Chemistry and Modeling of Atmospheric Chemistry. He enjoys hiking, snowboarding, and reading French comic books in his free time.
