Bruce M. Berman

Bruce Berman is an innovation observer and advisor who has written for a wide range of readers. He is a consultant, author, editor and educator who has spent four decades helping to clarify IP rights and convey their value. Bruce is best known for communicating the role of IP rights and their impact on people, business and society. He is Managing Director of Brody Berman Associates, a management consulting firm he founded in New York in 1988. BBA advises innovative businesses about strategic communications, reputation and brand. Bruce has counseled many IP executives, litigators and dealmakers, and their clients. In 2016, Bruce co-founded the Center for Intellectual Property Understanding (CIPU), a nonpartisan nonprofit that raises awareness about IP rights rights and their impact. He serves as chairman.

In addition to The Intangible Investor, Bruce is responsible for four books on IP and business, including From Ideas to Assets. Articles, From Assets to Profits, Making Innovation Pay (all Wiley) and Hidden Value (Institutional Investor). Chapters and reviews by him have appeared in more than 100 periodicals and books, including Forbes, Nature Biotechnology and The New York Times. IP CloseUp, a popular blog that he publishes has generated more than 400,000 views. His Intangible Investor column was was contributed to every issue of IAM Magazine from 2003 to 2019. Since 2019 it has run on IPWatchdog. Bruce has mentored young entrepreneurs in Kenya, Uganda and Colorado. Bruce taught cinema studies at Columbia University for four years, where he completed his master's degree and the course work for the Ph.D. The podcast Bruce hosts for CIPU, Understanding IP Matters, has completed its third season and 26th episode.
