James M. Ryan

Jim Ryan, is a mammalogist and a co-author on Mammalogy, a college textbook (5th edition) published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers in 2010. He is also the author of Adirondack Wildlife, A Field Guide, published by the University Press of New England. In addition, Professor Ryan has published numerous scientific articles in professional journals. He has conducted field research around the world, including sites in Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Trinidad, and Ecuador. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, The National Geographic Society, and other funding agencies.

He is currently Professor of Biology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY., where he holds the Phillip J. Moorad ’28 and Margaret N. Moorad Professor of Sciences endowed chair. He received his Ph. D in zoology from The University of Massachusetts, a master’s degree in biological sciences from The University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in zoology from The State University of New York at Oswego.
