Early career focused on state security in Northern Ireland and Zimbabwe, then transitioned to researching police relations with ethnic/racial minorities in the USA and other countries. Over the past two decades, Ron Weitzer has also studied sex work and the sex industry in Europe, America, and Asia, and he is now regarded as one of the leading scholars in this field internationally.
