Enrico Coiera

Enrico Coiera is dual trained in medicine and computer science. He is an Australian born research scientist and has worked in clinical practice, in industry at the prestigious Hewlett-Packard Research Laboratories in Bristol UK, and is now in academia. His research papers cover a wide territory, exploring the different ways humans and technologies come together to support healthcare. He is particularly known for his work on clinical communication and interruption, the safety of e-health, and decision support technologies. The Guide to Health Informatics is a textbook he first wrote in 1998, at the beginning of the Internet revolution, and in subsequent editions the book has evolved to reflect the rapid change in this discipline. The book emphasises ideas rather than technologies, and is intended to be a foundational course that is accessible to health professionals and technologists alike. The third edition appears in 2015.
