Jennie Miller Helderman

Jennie Helderman was born into Alabama politics, storytelling, and creek-bank fishing, and broke a glass ceiling at ten as the first girl to page in the Alabama legislature. A 2007 Pushcart Prize nominee, she's the award-winning author of As the Sycamore Grows. A former teacher, social worker, and children's advocate, she's climbed Vesuvius, worked at Pompeii, and walked the Camino de Santiago. She's now at work on two memoirs — one on the civil rights-era South, one on a life of travel.
