Vijaya Sekhar Chellaboina

Vijaysekhar Chellaboina is a Professor and Dean at the School of Computer Science at UPES, Dehradun, India. He holds a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras, an M.S. from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. His academic foundation spans mechanical and aerospace engineering, with research expertise in applied mathematics. Vijay’s teaching covers a broad range of subjects, including mathematics, mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, and computer science.

His research interests focus on stability theory and feedback control applications for complex systems, particularly in biomedical and financial contexts. He has authored over 100 journal papers, an equal number of peer-reviewed conference articles, and five books, two of which are widely used as textbooks. His notable awards include state-level recognitions in mathematical Olympiads, the prestigious US NSF CAREER award, and the TCS Distinguished Researcher award. Vijay is also a senior member of IEEE.

His work experience spans assistant and associate professorships at the University of Missouri—Columbia and the University of Tennessee—Knoxville. In India, he has held senior academic and research positions at TCS Research, Mahindra University, SRM University, and GITAM University, serving in leadership roles such as Dean of Engineering.

Vijay's research focuses on nonlinear control systems, adaptive control for biomedical applications, and financial optimization. His current interests include reinforcement learning and quantum computing. In his teaching, he advocates for a student-centric, project-based learning approach, bridging theory with real-world applications. He has taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including advanced control systems, mathematics, and engineering dynamics.
