Tom Murray

In the books he has written for the MBI/Voyaguer Press Railroad Color History series, Tom Murray tells the story of why each railroad was built, how it survived the ups and downs of two world wars and the depression, how it competed for freight and passenger business, and the role it played in the railroad merger movement that began in the 1960s. He uses archival and color photographs, maps, travel brochures and advertisements to illustrate how each railroad's personality developed over time.

Tom grew up with a love of trains, and was fortunate to have a career in the railroad industry. Beginning in 1970, he worked for the Boston & Maine, Soo Line Railroad, CSX Transportation, and Southern Pacific. Since 1997, he has been a freelance consultant, author and newsletter publisher.
