Michael A.G. Michaud is the author of two favorably reviewed, research-driven non-fiction books. The most recent (2007) was a detailed study of the centuries-long debate about the probability and possible consequences of coming into contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. Entitled Contact with Alien Civilizations, that work got four and a half stars on Amazon.com. Earlier, he had published a study of the American pro-space movement entitled Reaching for the High Frontier.
Very recently (August 2018), Michael published a novel entitled Eastern Wind through Amazon. In that story, six strangers of mixed nationality seek evidence of a Spanish galleon that may have sunk long ago near one of California's Channel Islands. The bits and pieces they find imply that the ship was not Spanish, but may have come from Asia centuries before. Themes include the rising power of China, the relentless rise of the oceans, and the political assault on science.
Michaud also has published more than ninety articles, journal papers, and book reviews.
Michael was a U.S. Foreign Service Officer before turning full time to writing. Among his assignments were Director of the State Department's Office of Advanced Technology, Counselor for science, technology, and environment at the American embassies in Paris and Tokyo, and Consul-General in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Michaud led the successful negotiation of a new agreements for science and technology cooperation with the Soviet Union and Poland. He played a major role in the negotiation of a space cooperation agreement between the U.S. and the Soviets. He often represented the Department of State in interagency space policy forums and testified before Congressional committees four times.
