Sonja Hakala

Sonja Hakala is the author of three novels about the little town that no one can find on a map, Carding, Vermont. In addition, she has written several how-to quilt books and edited a compilation of stories written by quilters.

Sonja has been involved with the book publishing business as an editor, book designer, and marketer for many years, and shares that experience with other writers through lectures, workshops, classes and her workbook for independent authors, Publish Your Book Your Way.

In 2011, Sonja founded a nonprofit called the Parkinson’s Comfort Project in order to bring the beauty, compassion, and warmth of handmade quilts to people with Parkinson’s disease. This work was inspired by her parents' struggle with this neurological degenerative disease. Her Dad died of Parkinson's in 2002, her mother in 2010.

Since 2011, the Parkinson's Comfort Project has given away more than 300 handmade, beautiful quilts made by generous people all over the U.S. You can find out more at: www.ParkinsonsComfort.org

Every Friday, Sonja shares a short story or sketch about Carding, all of them inspired by her beloved Green Mountain State where she lives on a river with her husband, Jay. You can join the fun any time by subscribing to her website: www.SonjaHakala.com.
