The thing about writing, Claire Watts says, is that you can be whoever you want to be. The same goes for reading, of course. For much of her writing life, Claire stood firmly in the sensible, educational realm in public, writing and editing non-fiction on all sorts of topics. But in secret, she was writing fiction. Then, one day, she told someone she'd written some fiction, and that person read it and liked it, and the secret was out.
