Tomal’s research has mainly concentrated on the areas of leadership, organizational improvement, and core competencies. One of his more popular and inspiring books, coauthored with his wife Annette Tomal, Ph.D., and the foreword by Dr. Ben Carson was titled Every Parent’s Nightmare. The book depicted the triumphant story over their young son’s critical brain tumor and how to find the best medical care for your family.

Another inspiring book (with Hauser and Rajan) titled Songwriting: Strategies for Self-Expression and Creativity (foreword written by Jim Peterik, Eye of the Tiger and Preface by BJ Thomas) includes research on core competencies of songwriters and musicians. It provides songwriting strategies based upon the elements of music –rhythm, pitch (melody), harmony, expression, timbre, and form--and lyrics, musical sustainability, recording, business of songwriting, and publishing.
