F. James Rohlf

F. James Rohlf (1936-) was born in Blythe, California, and grew up in San Diego where he pursued interests in entomology, marine biology, scuba diving, and judo. He graduated from San Diego State College in 1958 with a major in Zoology and minors in both chemistry and mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in entomology at the University of Kansas but his interests shifted to biological statistics and especially multivariate statistical methods in biology. He has taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Kansas, and was in the Dept. of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University where he held a John S. Toll Professorship. He has retired in 2014 and is now a Professor Emeritus and a Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
