I was born in Montreal, Canada in 1935. I joined the Jesuit Fathers in 1956. I was reborn in India on October 15, 1961. For the last 50 years, I have been living mostly in Kolkata. I love it. I have a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts (Film) from the University of California in Los Angeles. Here I teach on communication media. I also write, so far some 25 books. One of them was given a national award in 1998. My main interest is the cultural roots of the Indian movies. The first Indian film I saw was the Apu trilogy. Satyajit Ray, through his kind relationship with me and through his films, helped me in my journey to the ‘cave of the heart.’ I just completed writing “Pedagogy of the Media Oppressed − In Tune with the Indian Folk Movies: Seven Steps of a Self Education for Liberation.” I hope it will help.
