Madelon Sprengnether

Madelon Sprengnether was born in St. Louis, attended Bryn Mawr College and Yale University and has taught at Middlebury College and the University of Minnesota. She lives in Minneapolis, not too far from the Mississippi River, which has been a haunting and sustaining presence in her life.

She has published a collection of lyric essays, "Rivers, Stories, Houses, Dreams," a memoir,"Crying at the Movies," and two collections of poetry, "The Normal Heart" and The Angel of Duluth." She has received awards from the Bush Foundation, The Loft Literary Center, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her new memoir, "Great River Road: Memoir and Memory," is forthcoming from New Rivers Press in April 2015, and her new collection of prose poems, "Near Solstice," will be released by Holy Cow! Press at the same time. She is also at work on a collection of essays titled "Mourning Freud."
