Mary J. Shapiro

Mary J. Shapiro is author of numerous books about New York City and its most famous landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. Her children’s book, How They Built the Statue of Liberty (Random House), was translated and published in Spanish, French, and Japanese editions. She also wrote the exhibition script for the highly acclaimed Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York. As an interpretive planner, she helped develop exhibitions for the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. She lives with her husband in New York, NY. They have two children and one grandchild.
