Dr. Philip Morse is a professor emeritus at the State University of New York at Fredonia where he taught in the School of Education. His specialty was elementary and early childhood education with an emphasis on the teaching of writing and the creative arts. Part of his desire to uplift the learning experiences of young children comes from the uniquely individualized learning environment of the rural one-room schoolhouse he attended until middle school.
Dr. Morse is an award-winning poet and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University and The University of California at Berkeley.
The book, DOES A PIGEON BARK, is for the parents, teachers, and caregivers of young children and offers more than 200 activities in seven key areas: body movement, listening and hearing, language, looking and seeing, mathematics, science, and social and emotional development. Each activity is simple, educationally sound, and practical. Almost all are without cost to the parent or teacher. Nearly all can be done in the child's home, school, or immediate neighborhood.
His children's story, GLORIA MAE, THE HEROINE OF DUNKIRK HARBOR, originated from a true life rescue on Lake Erie near Fredonia, New York.
Dr. Morse now lives just outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his wife Judith. He enjoys classical piano and all things related to nature. His passion is to pass on to young children the enthusiasm for learning and exploring that he experienced in his early years.
