Paul Phillips

Paul Phillips, Professor of Music and Gretchen B. Kimball Director of Orchestral Studies at Stanford University, is a distinguished conductor, composer, and pianist who has recorded with the RTÉ National Symphony (Ireland), Slovak Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra, and Brown University Orchestra, which he led as Music Director from 1989-2017. He is the editor of “The Devil Prefers Mozart” and author of "A Clockwork Counterpoint: The Music and Literature of Anthony Burgess", chapters in six books on Burgess, the essay 'Burgess and Music' in the Norton Critical Edition of "A Clockwork Orange", and the Burgess entry in "The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians". As Music Advisor to the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester, England, Phillips has spearheaded performances of Burgess’s music worldwide, premiering compositions throughout North American and Europe, and conducting the first commercial recording of Burgess's orchestral music.
