Mitchell P. Smith

Mitchell P. Smith is Director of the School of International Affairs at Penn State University. He served for seven years as Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and briefly as Dean, in the College of International Studies at the University of Oklahoma. His work focuses on comparative and international political economy, with a particular emphasis on European integration.

Smith received his B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, worked as an economic analyst at the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, and earned his M.P.A. Degree from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs, where he studied international political economy. Smith then received his Ph.D. from Princeton University's Department of Politics. Smith has been a Fulbright Fellow in European Union Affairs and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, Belgium, as well as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. In addition to Belgium and Italy, he has lived in Britain and in Germany.
