Gillian Bouras

Gillian Bouras is an Australian writer whose work explores memory, identity, family, and the intersections of cultures. After training as a teacher, she moved with her family to a village in the Peloponnese in 1980, a temporary stay that became a lifelong home.

Living between Greece and Australia has shaped her writing, which blends memoir, essay, and cultural reflection. Her books include A Foreign Wife, Aphrodite and the Others, Seeing and Believing, No Time for Dances, and Starting Again.

Bouras writes with attentiveness to everyday life, the natural world, and the human comedy, often reflecting on belonging, loss, and the meeting of oral and literate traditions. She also writes essays and articles on identity and place for publications including Eureka Street. She continues to live and write in Greece.
