"Throughout my years as a Christian, I came to realize that we cannot possibly become committed to God or lead a disciplined life or form fixed spiritual habits by our personal efforts. We fail every time. Developing good spiritual habits means surrendering to the God-directed life. It means listening to the Holy Spirit directing you in this season of life--whether it's an exhausted season with young children demanding your time, an intense season of finding your place in your vocation, or a lonely season of waiting and reflecting.

"Only God's power can help us develop the disciplined life and that takes a lifetime. I'm still traveling on this spiritual road. In recent years I've been in a long period of questioning that has left me with no answers this side of heaven. I still struggle with unanswered questions, and am learning to watch for God working in and through my burdens. My life sometimes feels like an unfinished puzzle with pieces scattered all over the table that only God could put together. But the more I submit to what the Lord wants of me, the more God-given peace I experience even in the midst of pain. The more I see the joy in not knowing the answers but in developing a deeper heart for God. I'm learning, as I go, the beauty of resting in a relationship with Him and the joy of knowing Him, not just about Him." from A Woman's Heart for God
