London-based journalist and erstwhile travel guide editor, I am a perpetual tourist even in my home city. WHITEBAIT AND THE THAMES FISHERIES is the latest book, sparked by voluntary work with the Zoological Society of London. 'LONDON'S LOST GLOBAL GIANT: In Search of the East India Company' is the final part of THE LONDON TRILOGY. It follows on from THE TEMPLES OF LONDON (recommended by the Lord Mayor) and FATHER THAMES ("A beautiful collection of short stories" - Jerry White). Meantime ROYAL LONDON is in bookstores, as is Reader's Digest's THE MOST AMAZING PLACES TO VISIT IN LONDON and Dorling Kindersley's evergreen LONDON TOP 10.

Sailing in Turkey inspired THE FISHERMAN OF HALICARNASSUS of which the The Sunday Times wrote: "If you are heading for the Turkish coast this summer, this curious, informative and entertaining little book will sit well beside the bunk."

The fiction list: The Thatcher/Reagan decade produced A-TRAIN and AFTERMATH. Curiosity about the many hotels called Bristol led to HIGH TIMES AT THE HOTEL BRISTOL, which I am expanding and re-titling 'Hotel Bristol Stories'. Time lost in Spain inspired BURNING BARCELONA, a novel that I am most attached to, though it was LUNCH WITH ELIZABETH DAVID, published by Little, Brown, that first caught reviewers attention both in the UK and US.
