George McKay

George McKay is a writer on alternative cultures, popular music/media, cultural politics, disability. From jazz to punk and festivals. Via gardening. He also plays double bass, and has a small west-facing town garden in Norwich. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland though mostly raised in Norfolk, England. In academic life he is Professor of Media Studies at the University of East Anglia, UK, having previously been a professor at Salford and UCLan. George's website is at https://georgemckay.org. He is lead editor of The Oxford Handbook of Punk Rock, which *should* be out in 2023. His most recents books are on festivals: ed. The Pop Festival: History, Music, Media Culture (2015), and with Emma Webster, 25 Years of the London Jazz Festival (2017; free download via his website). He is currently working on a monograph about music, environment, activism, and climate emergency, provisionally entitled Crazy Horses.
