Larry G Mitchell

Born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania, Larry G Mitchell (Lawrence G.Mitchell) is a teacher and researcher, a student of nature. He holds a PhD from the University of Montana, Missoula, taught courses in biology, environmental science and zoology as a professor at Iowa State University, Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, and the University of Montana. Larry has also written and produced wildlife programs for public broadcast, coauthored zoology and biology textbooks, and found time to study music history, mountain railroading, and learn the cons and pros of hard-rock mining. Research for his 2020 novel, "Apella's Turn," swept Dr. Mitchell out of academia to a life of semi-seclusion and full-time writing in Montana, New Mexico and Texas. When he isn't writing, Larry enjoys planting trees, building and setting up bird houses, climbing a steep trail on a mountain bike, especially in Montana's northern Bitterroots and New Mexico's Sangre de Cristos. Favorite trails include the South Boundary and Devisadero Peak near Taos, NM. He also likes to explore the high country on snowshoes, revisit places where he studied fish parasites, mountain mosquitoes, and freshwater clams. AND, rock-climbing and canoeing with his wife, Susan are way up on Larry's list of favorites.
