Simon G. G. MacDonald

(Simon)Gavin MacDonald was born in Beauly, Scotland in 1923. He did research into centimetre radar during the 1939-46 war and then returned to Edinburgh University to finish his degree in Maths and Physics. He worked in academic jobs in Scotland, Jamaica and the USA, finishing as Prof of Physics in the University of Dundee, Scotland. During his working career, he also wrote short stories in the fields of science fiction and classical detection and, while in Jamaica, wrote three science fiction serials for radio and appeared as a regular member on the Brains Trust panel. Since his retiral from academic life, he has written 17 classic detective novels and two books of short stories. Gavin is a keen bridge player and has won three national titles at the game.
