Ruth Salvaggio

Ruth Salvaggio is Professor of American Studies and English & Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The author of several books on poetry and feminist studies, she has also taught at the University of New Mexico and several other institutions. Her latest book, HEARING SAPPHO IN NEW ORLEANS, uses Sappho's fragments as a guide through the flooded and fragmented post-Katrina city, where she uncovers its rich poetic legacy and the unforgettable song of loss and desire that New Orleans harbors for our imperiled world. A native of New Orleans, she grew up in the Ninth Ward.
