I have been interested in the role of nutrition, diet, and behavior since the 1970s when I wrote my first of several books about hyperactive children and the role of diet in their behavior.

By the 1980s I started taking graduate courses about nutrition at Purdue University. I earned my Master’s degree from the Department of Nutrition Science in the mid-1990s. I stayed to work with my mentor. We conducted and published several studies in the medical literature about essential fatty acids and later about the role of artificial food dyes found in common beverages and foods that appealed to children but affected some of them adversely.

I went on to publish books about medical disorders that I had personally experienced—macular degeneration (an eye disorder where you lose your central vision), What You Must Know about Strokes Low Vision Matters, and now Fighting Chronic Fatigue and Pain Disorders which is based on my own experiences starting in 1963 after a brain infection. I also combed the medical literature for research on fatigue and pain disorders and how to treat them.

My goals with all my books are to make life better for those afflicted with disorders I have experienced. Trying to help others has helped me cope personally. I hope my latest book about chronic fatigue and pain will help improve your life, too!
