Richard Grassby

After spending half my life teaching in England at Oxford University, I decided to leave the ivory tower and explore the art and business world in the USA. In retirement I have drawn on my experiences to write about the economic and social history of early modern Britain, nineteenth century art history, capitalism and, most recently, sexuality in the twentieth century cinema. In 2017 I published a memoir of my life (A Scholar's Tale) and added three new chapters to Rhetoric and Reality, originally published in 2016.
