Deborah J. Haynes

Deborah J. Haynes is Professor Emerita of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado Boulder. She has BFA and MFA degrees in ceramics from the University of Oregon, the MTS degree from Harvard Divinity School, and a PhD from Harvard University in the Study of Religion and Art History. She taught art history and theory, plus graduate seminars in studio practice, at Washington State University and University of Colorado Boulder from 1991–2013, and served as a program director or department chair for more than fourteen years. Haynes is the author of numerous articles on philosophy of art, as well as seven books: Bakhtin and the Visual Arts (Cambridge, 1995); The Vocation of the Artist (Cambridge, 1997); Art Lessons: Meditations on the Creative Life (Westview, 2003); Book of This Place: The Land, Art, and Spirituality (Pickwick/Wipf & Stock, 2009); Spirituality and Growth on the Leadership Path: An Abecedary (Pickwick/Wipf & Stock, 2012); Bakhtin Reframed (I. B. Tauris, 2013); and Beginning Again: REflections on Art as Spiritual Practice (Cascade/Wipf and Stock, 2018).
